It finally happened. The moment that all of us knew would happene eventually but secretly hoped would never happen because some unseeable force would stop it from happening. The death toll in Iraq has passed 2,000 for U.S. forces ALONE. Maybe it wouldnt be as bad if this was during the 1950s or the 1960s, when those kind of casulty levels weren't unheard of, or maybe if the war that those men and women (most of whom are only a couple years older than ME!!!)were fighting was actually legitimate or worth something. Like if Saddam Hussein really DID have Weapons of Mass Destruction or if he really DID have a link to Al-Qaeda and the 9/11 attacks. If either of those had been proved true, then maybe I wouldnt be as royally pissed off as I am right now.
I have to hand it to the soldiers of the United States Armed Forces, though. These people put their lives on the line every day for a mission that they may not fully understand or for reasons that may not have been fully explained to them...and that takes guts. For that, I salute them, and pity them for not having a better Commander-in-Chief.
And on top of all of this, its starting to look like the entire case for war may have all been a fabricated lie, but I dont want to puruse that train of thought too far, because nothing has been proven yet (nor has anybody been charged/indicted with anything). However, I will say this: If it beomes apparent that the Bush Administration knowingly presented false information to Congress and in doing so indirectly lied to the American people in order to obtain a declaration of war, those actions, to me, border on treason.
So much for the "party of values".
